Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure. While primarily used on the face, it can also treat aging or damaged skin on other areas of the body.

During microneedling, small needles create micro-perforations in the skin, stimulating the body's natural healing response. This process boosts collagen and elastin production, helping to maintain firm, supple skin.

Microneedling targets aging and scarring concerns, resulting in smoother, more youthful-looking skin. In some cases, it is also used to address medical conditions such as alopecia and hyperhidrosis.

Microneedling is often used to treat common skin issues like enlarged pores, wrinkles, fine lines, discoloration, and uneven tone. It can also help improve the appearance of mild scarring and stretch marks.

If you're dealing with any of these skin concerns, microneedling may be a good option for you. As a minimally invasive procedure with long-lasting results, it's a popular choice for skin rejuvenation. However, it's important to consult with a skilled aesthetician or dermatologist to determine if microneedling is safe and appropriate for your specific needs. Certain factors like active acne, skin rashes, eczema, or the use of particular medications may make you ineligible for treatment.

  • Improves skin texture - By stimulating collagen and elastin production, microneedling enhances the texture and overall appearance of your skin.
  • Minimizes signs of aging - Microneedling helps reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines.
  • Addresses acne scars - Microneedling can diminish the appearance of acne scars, as well as other types of scarring and stretch marks.
  • Evens out skin tone - Microneedling can help create a more uniform complexion by reducing hyperpigmentation and discoloration.
  • Medical applications - In some cases, microneedling is used to help manage medical conditions such as alopecia and excessive sweating.
  • Minimally invasive procedure - As a minimally invasive treatment, microneedling requires little to no downtime, allowing you to resume normal activities immediately.
  • Quick and convenient - Most microneedling sessions last less than an hour, rarely exceeding a few hours in total. Combined with its long-lasting effects, microneedling offers a fast and convenient way to improve your skin's appearance.
  • Enduring results - The benefits of microneedling can last for several months, with most people only requiring annual maintenance treatments.

Prior to your microneedling treatment, you'll have a consultation with the specialist to assess your candidacy and discuss your skin concerns. Based on this evaluation, they will determine the areas that require treatment.

At the start of your session, your skincare professional will thoroughly cleanse your face and apply a topical anesthetic 30 minutes to an hour before the procedure to minimize discomfort. Using a specialized microneedling device, your provider will then create micro-punctures in the targeted areas. Most patients describe a warm or scratching sensation during the treatment, with mild discomfort occasionally felt in bony regions. Depending on the size of the treatment area, the procedure can take anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours.

In some cases, multiple sessions spaced weeks apart may be necessary to achieve the desired outcome. Following your treatment, your provider will provide post-care instructions. Redness and swelling are common for several days after the procedure, so it's best to avoid sun exposure and use an ice pack to alleviate any discomfort. Be sure to follow any additional post-treatment guidelines provided by your specialist.

If you've decided that microneedling is the right choice for your skin concerns, the first step is to find a skilled professional to perform your treatments. It's crucial to select a trained and experienced physician for microneedling, which is commonly offered by dermatologists or med spas. Choosing a qualified provider ensures that you're in capable hands and will achieve the best possible results from your treatment.

Before your session, your provider will typically schedule a consultation to evaluate your skin and discuss your concerns. This allows them to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your goals and the specific needs of your skin. The consultation also provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions or express any concerns you may have about the treatment.

While microneedling is generally safe and minimally invasive, it's important to remember that, like any cosmetic or medical procedure, there are still inherent risks. That's why it's essential to find a provider you can trust. The Certainly platform is designed to help you locate and compare reputable microneedling providers in your area.

Dr. Avshalumova saw my elderly parents for a chronic problem. They have been to 2 different dermatologists prior to that but they were not able to come up with an appropriate treatment plan or to help them. Dr. Avshalumova was able to make the correct diagnosis during their 1st visit and come up with a treatment plan that solved their health problem. Dr. Avshalumova was very professional, caring and kind. This doctor has an excellent bedside manner and truly cares about her patients. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
