Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin procedure that is used to rejuvenate the skin. Microneedling is primarily used on the face, but can also be used on other areas of the skin that are aging or damaged.

Microneedling uses small needles to make micro-perforations in the skin. These tiny holes stimulate the skin’s healing response. This leads to an increase in collagen and elastin production, which helps to keep the skin elastic and firm.

Microneedling addresses skin concerns related to aging or scarring, giving the treated skin a firmer, smoother and more youthful look. It is also sometimes used for medical conditions like alopecia and excessive sweating.

Microneedling is primarily used to address common skin concerns like enlarged pores, wrinkles, fine lines, skin discoloration and uneven skin tone. It can also be used to improve the appearance of mild scars and stretch marks.

If you have any of the above skin concerns, you may decide that microneedling is right for you. Since it is minimally invasive and results are long-lasting, it is a popular cosmetic option for skin rejuvenation. However, you will need to consult with an experienced aesthetician or dermatologist to determine if microneedling is safe and right for you. You may not be eligible for microneedling if you have acne, skin rashes, skin conditions like eczema or if you’re on certain medications or treatments.

  • Enhances skin texture - Microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production, which helps improve the texture and appearance of your skin.
  • Reduces signs of aging - Microneedling helps minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
  • Treats acne scars - Microneedling can help minimize the appearance of acne scars. It can also help reduce the appearance of other scars and stretch marks.
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation - Microneedling can help give the skin a more even tone by reducing hyperpigmentation and discoloration.
  • Medical uses - Microneedling is sometimes used to help treat medical conditions like alopecia and excessive sweating.
  • Minimally invasive - Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure and requires little to no recovery time. You can typically return to your normal activities right away.
  • Convenient - Microneedling appointments rarely last longer than a few hours, and often can be completed in less than an hour. Combined with the long-lasting results, microneedling appointments can be a convenient and quick way to improve the appearance of your skin.
  • Long-lasting Results - The results of microneedling can last for months, and people typically need just annual follow-up treatments for maintenance.

Before your microneedling session, you will have a consultation with the microneedling specialist. They will determine if you’re a good candidate for treatment and talk to you about your skin concerns. Based on your consultation, they will determine the areas of the skin that need treatment.

A microneedling session will begin with your skincare professional thoroughly cleansing your face, followed by an application of a topical anesthetic. This occurs roughly 30 minutes to an hour before your treatment, to ensure the face is numb and your discomfort is minimized. Using a specialized microneedling device, your provider will then create a series of micro-punctures in the treatment area. Most people report a warm or scratching sensation during treatment, with mild discomfort sometimes occurring in bony areas. The procedure can take anywhere between 15 minutes to hours, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Multiple sessions are sometimes needed, with weeks between sessions to achieve desired results. After your session, your provider will discuss post-treatment care. It’s common for your skin to be red and swollen for several days after the procedure. It’s best to avoid sun exposure and use an ice pack to minimize post-treatment discomfort. Also, make sure to follow any other post-treatment instructions your specialist provides.

If you decide that microneedling is right for your skin concerns, the first step is finding a skilled professional to conduct your treatments. It’s essential to find a trained and experienced physician for microneedling. Common places to receive microneedling treatments are a dermatologist or a med spa. Choosing a qualified provider will ensure you’re in good hands and that you achieve optimal results with your treatment.

Before your session, it is standard for your provider to schedule a consultation. This allows them to evaluate your skin and speak with you about your concerns. They can then tailor a treatment plan that aligns with your goals and the needs of your skin. This consultation is also a great opportunity for you to discuss any questions or concerns you have about treatment.

Remember, while microneedling is generally safe and minimally invasive, there are still risks, like any cosmetic or medical procedure. That’s why it’s crucial to seek out a provider that you can trust. That’s where the Certainly platform comes in. Certainly can help you find and compare quality microneedling providers in your area.

Manhattan is an amazing place to be, but living in the big city can also have some negative consequences for your skin. Some factors of city living that can have long-term effects on your skin include:

  • Pollution
  • Air quality
  • Water quality
  • Outside Germs

Fortunately, the effects of the big city can be reduced with proper skincare and the help of cosmetic procedures, like microneedling.

Cost is another major consideration when you search for cosmetic procedures in Manhattan. As you compare microneedling services, you may notice significant discrepancies in cost between providers. The cost of treatment can vary based on factors like:

  • The experience of the provider
  • The areas being treated
  • The number of sessions

Not only can the costs of medical and cosmetic care vary wildly in Manhattan, but many people sometimes get hit with a surprise bill after their appointment. It’s a common phenomenon that Certainly is here to fix.

I recently had a Fraxel treatment on my face and chest at Dr. Adam Nabatian's office, and I am beyond thrilled with the results. My skin hasn't looked this good in years! Following the treatment, I experienced a few days of downtime, with my skin being very red and puffy for the first two days. However, it quickly subsided by the third day, leaving me with only minor redness for a week. Impressively, the treatment greatly reduced some scarring I had from injection sites from previous procedures done elsewhere. Dr. Nabatian, along with his medical assistant and office management team, were exceptionally warm and professional throughout the entire process. I tend to get very anxious before undergoing laser procedures, but their wonderful attention and bedside manner eased my anxiety greatly. They made sure I felt comfortable and well-informed at every step. I highly recommend Dr. Nabatian for anyone considering dermatological treatments. The quality of care, combined with the visible results of the treatment, makes this experience truly five-star. Thank you, Dr. Nabatian and team, for such a positive and transformative experience!

Simply put, Dr. Cameron and his staff are outstanding. I've suffered from a skin issue for over six years, seeing several dermatologists in the NY/NJ area, and no one could figure out what it was or how to treat it. Within the first minute of examining me, Dr. Cameron knew exactly what it was and provided a treatment regime to clear the problem completely. I sincerely thank Dr. Cameron and his staff for their professionalism and expertise! With them, you're in good hands and can expect a positive outcome. Highly recommend!

As a fair skinned redhead, the news that my dermatologist of 23 years was retiring was terrifying. I used ZocDoc to find a practice near me and found Victoria, LM Medical / Dr Morgan Rabach’s PA. She has the mind of a scientist, the eye of an artist and a heart of gold. She and the team are helpful and patient and I’ve had a great experience each visit, from screenings to cosmetic stuff. I’ve since seen Dr Morgan twice - she’s fastidious, detail oriented, fair, and I feel my delicate skin is in good hands with her and the great team she’s built.
