I don't really understand their policy re: seeing patients who had been exposed to COVID-19. My husband first started experiencing symptoms on April 9th, and then tested positive for COVID on April 10th. His quarantine period was scheduled to be over by April 20th so long as he no longer had a fever (he didn't have one at that point). He went into the hospital on April 18th and came out April 24th with an oxygen machine that he needs to use 24/7. He was told that he needed to follow up with a primary care doctor in an outpatient setting one week from the date of his discharge, so he could get his lungs checked out and get further guidance about using the oxygen machine. He called this doctor's office to try to schedule an appointment for April 30th, 3 weeks after the onset of his COVID symptoms. He has no fever or any other symptoms other than difficulty breathing, and he was told repeatedly in the hospital that he was no longer considered contagious. He explained to the receptionist everything that has happened over the last few weeks, and she kept asking him questions that indicated she hadn't heard or understood what he had just told her. Ex: he told her had had been in the hospital because he had breathing complications due to having COVID, and she continued to ask him if he had tested positive for COVID and if he had been in the hospital. He repeated everything again. Her response was to tell him that they couldn't see him there on April 30th. She suggested that he go to the ER for follow-up or quarantine for 2 more weeks and then they could see him. I'm not clear on why he would go back to the ER if he was not in acute distress and had just been discharged from the hospital and told to see a doctor in an outpatient setting. I'm also not really clear on why he was told to quarantine for two more weeks, when according to NYC Test and Trace and the hospital staff, he no longer had to quarantine because he isn't contagious. I understand wanting to be cautious with these things, and of course he wouldn't want anyone to catch COVID from him. But he needs follow-up care from a doctor for his breathing. It's not something that can wait another 2+ weeks, nor is it something he needs to go to the ER for.
