Dr. O Brien did my husband's surgery on his knee in 1987 /88 high school football season . He played 30 years of rugby since over 1000 games every saturday almost and sometimes 4 games a weekend.

Had shoulder surgery with Dr. O’Brien and feeling great! Dr. O’Brien is a talented doctor and gifted surgeon. His years of experience enabled him to identify abnormal inflammation in my shoulder during the surgery. Following up on Dr. O’Brien’s intuition, I tested positive for a blood disorder which was indeed affecting my joints. With that disorder identified, (hemochromatosis) and now under control, I’m grateful to Dr. O’Brien for going above and beyond.

My experience with Dr. O'Brien has been nothing short of amazing. From consulatiations, all the way through surgery, he and his staff made my shoulder and bicep surgery an extremely manageable and comforting process. His attention to detail and care for his patients is unparalleled. Being a Division 1 collegiate athlete, I have been to many doctors for injuries throughout my athletic career, and I can say that Dr. O'Brien would be one that I would recommend at the top of my list. Not only did he make me as a patient feel safe, but the aftermath of the surgery is incredible. I am in better shape that I was when I was a college athlete...and that is because I have the ability to push myself harder, pain free...thanks to Dr. O'Brien!

I cannot say enough about my positive experience with Dr. O'Brien and his office. As a collegiate athlete, I saw Dr. O'Brien after years of intense shoulder pain. I was often told by other doctors that I had a subluxing or dislocating shoulder, but Dr. O'Brien was able to pinpoint the true cause of my pain - biceps tendinitis. He performed his innovative biceps transfer procedure on my right shoulder, and I was so immediately relieved of my pain that I decided to have my left shoulder treated with the same biceps transfer procedure just 6 months later. I was back to athletics in less than 2 months after each surgery, and I was finally able to get back to my normal (pre-injury) self, if not stronger than I was before. The surgery allowed me to excel in my final three years of collegiate athletics. I am now 6+ years post-surgery and could not be more satisfied with the result. In fact, my experience as a patient of Dr. O'Brien's inspired me to pursue a career in medicine and I ended up performing research with him and his team, specifically looking at the results of the biceps transfer procedure. The procedure has changed the lives of many, many people and the outcomes have been tremendous. I know he has performed the surgery on countless high-performing athletes, including at least one MLB pitcher with great results. Not to mention, the surgery has shown promise as a "salvage" procedure in patients with arthritis who are looking to avoid shoulder replacement, and while shoulder replacement may be the ultimate outcome for some patients, it is a low-risk procedure with potentially tremendous upside for this population of patients. Finally, you cannot beat Dr. O'Brien's office staff. They are the nicest, friendliest staff you'll meet and will always work to accomodate your schedule and work with the utmost transparency.

Extremely mixed experiences. I had my ACL done with Dr O Brien in 2006. It was a great success. However, I returned in 2019 for shoulder surgery (bicep tenodisis & stabilisation). It was awful. He would turn up for our appointments an hour late, stay 5 mins and be gone. I should have trusted my instincts & went elsewhere. Ended up with a frozen shoulder which meant a repeat surgery several months later (Dr O Brien acknowledged he should have caught this much sooner. It would be an incredible achievement to do so in the 5 min meetings we had of course). In addition, I am left with pinched nerve in my shoulder and the stability still lacking. Very arrogant with his (brief) bedside manner. Thumbs up for knee surgery, two thumbs down for anything shoulder related. Note that I have had 7 other orthopaedic surgeries without complaint.
