This 5 star rating is for arthroscopy surgery by Dr. Spencer Stein. Medical team very professional & courteous. 1/2 star for their billing dept. Got message to prepay surgery though i had authorization from insurance carrier. This is a worker's compensation case and they need qualified workers in their billing dept!

Dr Portugal is an extremely caring, knowledge doctor with a wonderful bed side manner! I feel very well cared for.

Fancy new NYU orthopedic center with complete lack of professionalism. I was scheduled for a in-person visit (2 months wait) and on the day of the appointment I was told I need to reschedule because dr Portugal call in sick. That’s fine, it happens to all of us. The secretary scheduled me for the next day, first thing in the morning 8:30am appointment. While I was on a subway, 20 minutes before the appointment she tried to call me and I only heard her saying that the doctor has called in sick again. Then when I got out of the subway I saw she rescheduled me for a video visit at the same time, which I didn’t agree to. The only reason I waited this long for a visit is that he looks at me in person to discuss the issue. Since I was already by the center, I went up to talk to someone. Of course there was nothing they could do and offered to go with video call or reschedule for another distant date. I don’t mind he was sick or whatever. But the level of nonchalant attitude with which this has been taken care of me is beyond me. I took a day off and travelled for one hour to hear that I can do a video call with him. Why would I want to do that when I need a doctor to physically look at my injury? So I cannot even tell what sort of doctor he is but for the reasons stated above I do not recommend dr Portugal for his lack of respect for his patients and I do not recommend this whole orthopedic center for its disorganization.
