Thank you Dr Hughes! I had back surgery approximately 3 years ago. At the time I could hardly walk and had intermittent periods of not being able to stand. Dr Hughes performed major surgery on my back and I am happy to say that I am pain free and able to get around. This surgery was a life changer and saved me from spending my future in a wheel chair. Not sure if I recall his bedside manner or how much time he spent with me, but if you are interested in great results he is the doctor to see.

After suffering from back pain for years and trying every other alternative, my husband went to Dr. Hughes. The challenge with back pain, that you cannot understand until you’ve experienced it yourself, is it takes over your life. It is constant and cruel and can make both the patient and their caregiver grumpy. It’s also so complex. A procedure that brings one person total relief, could be a failure for someone else. So I think this is why there are mixed reviews about Dr. Hughes and they are not a true reflection of his skill. I would agree that it is difficult to get Dr. Hughes on the phone, but that is because he is seeing patients, both in the office and for surgery. Each time we called with a medical concern, we got a prompt call back from one of his PAs. Each time we visited his office, we were seen promptly by his staff. They were always warm and friendly and Dr. Hughes was always patient with the countless questions we asked. I think it’s also really important to note that Dr. Hughes did not pressure us into surgery. He gave us the options and possible outcomes. My husband’s surgery has provided him, most importantly, with pain relief and we can’t thank Dr. Hughes and his staff enough for that.

Dr Alex saw me after MRI and recommended surgery one week later. I'm thankful he had available time as office was busy. Surgery went well and recently had follow-up visit. I've never been in such a well run hospital environment. Nurses and physician's assistant's were great. I recommend Dr. Hughes. He now sees my husband.

Wonderful doctor, explained all aspects of the surgery. My back has not given me any problems since. I've been pain free since 2018. Thank you Dr. Hughes.

The entire experience with Dr. Hughes and his staff was excellent. After contacting the office and explaining my symptoms I was scheduled for a series of tests with an initial consultation on the same day. After MRI’s, Cat scan and multiple x-ray’s (5 star performance at HSS imaging department) I went directly over to Dr. Hughes office 2 blocks away for the consult. They immediately had all my test results for review and comparison with some of my older MRI results. Dr. Hughes walked me through all of the tests in great detail. He was thorough and explained his recommendations for a Laminectomy in my lower back. He described the procedure and listened carefully to all of my questions answering each completely. He expressed concern about my right hip and explained that it was possible that although the back was a first priority further action on the right hip was possible. As it turns out I have since had a total Right hip replacement. (6 weeks post op Hip) 5 months out of the back surgery I am doing great. The results were exactly as he said. I am also certain that doing the back first was definitely the right choice as he suggested. Another note, while the recovery for my back surgery went well it was hindered by my hip issues. I called Dr. Hughes office on multiple occasions regarding pain and spoke with a PA rather easily on each time. They were knowledgeable about my case and helped address any issue I had. I would highly recommend trusting Dr. Hughes with any surgery being considered.
