Growing up, I was always told I looked young for my age. Even into my twenties and early thirties, I could always count on being carded at R-rated movies and nightclubs. It became a point of pride when I saw my family and friends beginning to age, but my face remained essentially unchanged. My secret? Diligent skin care, exercise, sunblock, and occasional Botox injections.

However, on my 38th birthday last year, I woke up and noticed the hollows under my eyes had deepened, and my once cherubic cheeks had descended, leaving marked nasolabial folds. I didn't recognize myself and knew I needed to find a treatment to address these changes. After researching various options, I discovered that fillers could be a viable solution to rejuvenate my appearance. Fillers are substances injected into the skin to fill in wrinkles, add volume, or change the contours of the face.

As if the multitude of filler options wasn’t overwhelming enough, I faced the daunting task of finding accurate filler costs. The prices were highly variable and not exactly budget-friendly in New York City until I turned to Certainly Health. This reliable resource helped me determine filler costs and even book the procedure without worrying about confusing pricing.

This article aims to provide a comprehensive guide on filler pricing, treatment areas, and types of fillers available, helping you make an informed decision. If you’d like to see the exact cost for specific providers, we made it possible to compare prices for fillers by treatment area across providers in NYC.

How Does Filler Pricing Work?

Filler pricing can vary widely based on several factors, including the type of filler used, the treated area, and the provider's experience. Most providers charge per syringe of filler. We found some providers charging for half a syringe, although many require payment for a full syringe since the remaining product must be discarded. On average, we found that the cost of fillers in NYC is $1,079 per syringe, but prices can range anywhere from $700 to $2,000 per syringe.

Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® and Restylane® are popular options for immediate results in plumping and filling in creases in the skin. These fillers work by attracting and holding moisture, which helps to hydrate and volumize the skin. Their cost will vary based on the specific product, as both brands have different product variations of varying densities meant to treat other areas of the face. Juvederm products include Volbella, Voluma, Vollure, Ultra, and Ultra Plus, while Restalyne’s products include Silk, Lyft, Refyne, Restylane-L, and Kysse.

The treatment area can influence the cost. Treating complex areas like deep nasolabial folds or undereye hollows may require more skill and precision, leading some providers to charge more for these areas than just the amount of product used.

Provider experience, training, and reputation also play a crucial role in pricing. Highly experienced providers or MD injectors often charge more than nurse practitioners at the same establishments, reflecting their higher level of expertise and demand.

Additionally, clinics in upscale neighborhoods often have higher rates due to increased business costs in those areas.

How Does the Treatment Area and Filler Type Affect Prices?

Different areas of the face require different types of fillers, each designed to achieve a specific aesthetic result. The cost of fillers varies based on the product used and sometimes the complexity of the treated area. While some providers may charge a flat fee based on the number of syringes used, regardless of the product, this pricing structure has no strict rule.  Other providers will determine pricing based on the area treated and the specific product used.

Lips

Lip fillers like Juvederm Volbella and Restylane Silk typically cost between $700 and $1,300 per syringe, with an average cost of $784 per syringe in NYC. However, we did find a provider offering filler for $450. These fillers add subtle volume to the lips and smooth out vertical lip lines, with results lasting up to 12 months.

Most patients need 1-2 syringes to achieve their desired level of fullness. However, some experts believe injectors should only augment lips with 1-1.5 ml of hyaluronic acid filler per treatment, known as the Step-by-Step technique. These providers believe more filler to the lips in one session can throw off facial harmony. Individuals seeking more volume or those with very thin lips may need multiple visits to achieve their aesthetic goals.

Midface (Cheek/Smile Lines)

Midface fillers such as Juvederm Voluma and Restylane Lyft add volume to the cheeks and smooth out smile lines. These fillers usually cost between $800 and $1,300 per syringe, with an average cost of $852 per syringe, and can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Typically, 1-2 syringes are used for midface enhancements unless the lines are very deep.

I got one syringe split between both nasolabial folds, and a small amount of product was also placed in the piriform fossa (located at the ala of the nose on either side where the nasolabial folds begin). The results were subtle yet noticeable enough that I looked refreshed and felt confident in my skin again.

Under the eyes

Undereye fillers like Juvederm Vollure and Restylane Refyne are commonly used to treat the undereyes. These fillers range between $700 and $1350 per syringe, with an average cost of $836 per syringe. They help to correct hollow tear troughs and reduce dark shadowing under the eyes, with results lasting up to 12 months. The number of syringes necessary will depend on a patient’s individual anatomy, hallowing, and desired outcome, with most patients requiring 1-3 syringes.

Jawline

Jawline fillers, such as Restylane Lyft, Juvederm Volux XC, or Voluma, enhance and sculpt the jawline. These fillers cost an average of $793 per syringe. Patients usually need 2-4 syringes of filler based on their desired results, facial structure, and age.
